Note that I said "dyeing" and not "dying". And dyeing up a storm, I might add! This is what tending a microwave for 4-5 hours a day for 4 days will get ya. I have yet to weigh these puppies, but I estimate I dyed up between 3 and 5 pounds of various fibers between Wednesday and Saturday last week.
AND I got to spend all that time hanging out with my friend Kristy of Hands on CRAFT in her amazing workspace. That's me there, showing off our 1st day's handiwork, mine on the right, hers on the left. All you Arcatan fiber types should *really* be supporting her in her new venture! (PS - She carries COLORBOMB Creations yarns, you know, so you'd be supporting me, too!!)
Day 1 (above) and 2 (below) were all about the mohair for me. I think I did a couple of pounds, at least!
Days 3 and 4 were filled with both locks (Lincoln, Romney & some lovely unidentified curlies) and roving (Wensleydale & Coopworth). Check out all the colors!!
Here's my favorite shot of the whole dyeing session - Lock Love!!
I wasn't so good about keeping my gloves on. Like, I only wore them for part of one day. Kinda like the effect, don't you?
My favorite quote about my "dyejob" came from my friend down under: Mandie of Ewe Give Me the Knits:
"you have that colour sense thing that stands out like dogs balls."
What's next? Taking pics & listing all this stuff on Etsy, that's what! I've got the bug now, the DYE BUG, and I've gotta sell most of this so I can raise some funds to buy some dyes of my own. Seriously, I can't wait to do more dyeing. I may even enjoy it MORE than I do spinning. Playing with color, what more could I want for a "job"? Right up my alley.
If you want to see the rest of the pictures from our days of dyeing, check out my Prep Set on Flickr. Lots of other shots there for the fiber-thirsty. And look for these fibers in my Etsy shop as they get added all week!

Nice. I love the colors they are so vibrant. Where did you get your mohair from?Did you an Kristy have a big dye day? Looks nice. Try to keep gloves on next time, over your life the effects of dye can be bad.
