All Is Well

Talked to the sister yesterday; sounds like her procedure went smoothly, and hopes are high that the new defibrillator will do the trick, keeping her off the heart-transplant list. Good news, great news. Something positive is even coming out of this: it has brought us together in a way that I didn't expect, and she's even re-establishing a relationship with our father. I'm hopeful about us as sisters for the first time in many years.

On a lighter note, lots of crafting going on around here. Yesterday's mail contained handspun from Artemis, who sent 'Blueberry Hill' (left) and 'Tiger Blues' (right), for the Spin to Knit swap.

'Blueberry Hill' is 22 yds. of merino and alpaca supercoils, and I used a wee bit of the blue in my Freeform Knitting 365 project yesterday for the mini-challenge '5 blue stitches, no questions asked'. 'Tiger Blues' is 44 yds. of 100% merino 2-ply in the local Arcata High School Tigers colors; how did she know?? Thanks, Artemis!!

On the knitting front, I finished knitting the hat WIP I was working on, but it just doesn't seem complete. Yesterday I got a vintage bakelite buckle to bauble it up a bit; I'll post a photo after I've finished embellishing it.

I started another hat, the Tychus by Brooke Higgins, from Knitty Summer 2005. Done in short-rows, whch I just learned recently, it's the easiest pattern you could ask for: perfect for drunk knitting at Purl 'n Hurl, which is exactly what I did with it last night. Just garter stitch, double-stranded; in my case, Manos del Uruguay solids in Magenta and Citric.

I definitely see more of these in my future.
