I'm Back!

Once upon a time, I had this knitblog: Velma's World. I blogged about all kinds of things there. Like shoes I own. And shoes I want to own. I blogged about disc golf, which I play way too much of. But mostly, I blogged about knitting.

I couldn't stand it any longer. I miss blogging. Not doing it made me feel so inadequate. Seems everyone who's anyone has a blog, now more than ever; even us nobodys have one.

So why knit, and why write about it? Here's one idea:

Knitting is very conducive to thought. It is nice to knit a while, put down the needles, write a while, then take up the sock again. ~Dorothy Day, social activist

When someone recently asked me if I had a blog, and I didn't know if the answer was 'yes' or 'no' - my defunct blog doesn't really count, does it? - I decided that maybe it was time to get back in the game. I'm hoping that someone out there who read my old blog, and said nice things about it, will stumble across this one and find something here to their liking (o.k., I'll probably rush out and email each and every person - all 4 - who wrote a nice comment and tell 'em Velma's World is live again).

So why did I stop blogging? There's always lots of reasons anyone does anything, yes? In my case, though, it was simple. My last blog entry was September 11, 2003. That's 2003, not 2001, folks. What happened 9/11/2003? My mom died. My sister called me that afternoon, shortly after I posted to my blog, with the news. Somehow, I just never worked up enough steam to get past the date on the screen every time I visited my own website. Nothing's changed, really, and everything has. Isn't that how life is? Apparently my desire to reclaim my blog has exceeded my sorrow and apathy at seeing that last post, right before I knew.

How maudlin! I really can write about more upbeat topics, no, really I can! I've been up to lots of new trouble since 2003... I went back to school for a graduate degree in counseling psychology. I learned to spin yarn. And I moved, after 5 years in the same small space, to a nice house in the suburbs (ha, all of Arcata is suburbs!).

So here's a picture of me spinning yarn, just to get the photostream going again. Come back soon!
