Birds 'n More

So many twitter-birds outside in the yard today, just lovely. They don't care that the weather is poopy. They probably like it. It's moister. More buggies. We have a Stellar's Jay that is a regular visitor, and a Lesser Goldfinch that likes the high-grade black sunflower seeds I stock the feeder with. I even saw a juvenile or female hummingbird for the first time here; hope it found the feeder. (Anybody have any ideas on how to keep it from leaking sticky sugar water all over? Draws ants like mad.) And the flocks of starlings and sparrows are ubiquitous.

I Frolf

Been putting like mad, getting ready for a big disc golf gathering. Decided using the hanging tone pole makes way more sense than the baskets, as this particular venue is all sticks, baby, not a basket in sight. Sticks and trees. Need to hone my skills. Trying to do a 100 putts/day every day until we leave in mid-July. I keep hoping that Kuan Yin (Goddess of Mercy) under the tree will direct my putts right to the pin, but alas, she has forsaken me. Maybe she tires of the bird poo from above (the feeder is suspended near her head), which soils her concrete tresses. Boo hoo, KY, you are sooo much better than that!

I Spin
Still working on the blues-greens superwash from earlier post. I have about 8oz of roving, and I've spun about half of it. I think that I'll use what I need for Boomer's hat, then donate the rest to Reenie and Angela's charity handspun drive to raise funds to send charkhas to women in Ethiopia. You can read about it here. I don't think they've put up the yarns for sale yet, though. I'll post something on it when that happens.

I Knit

Finished another beanie yesterday. I just keep pumping them out, and somehow they always find homes. Usually with discers. This one looks destined for the big discing/backpacking adventure in the wilderness later this month, for a side prize. (Need to remember to put these dark knits against a lighter background, eh?) And speaking of knitting, I really need to get our Stitch 'n Bitch known to those in the know in these parts as Purl 'n Hurl, back up and running. I think we've only met something like 3x in the past 2 years. Shameful.

I Read

What's on my nighttable? Trawler by Redmond O'Hanlon, who is screaming funny, if you like your humor in the vein of Monty Python ala Mr. Toad's Wild Ride - his writing is a real E-ticket ride (anyone? anyone? who's old enough to even get that. Natasha, there's another of your vanishing concepts). A latter-day British adventurer in the tradition of T.E. Lawrence and Richard Francis Burton, O'Hanlon repeatedly cooks up adventures (Borneo, the Amazon, the Congo) from the comfort of his snug armchair at home, then actually follows through on his grand plans. Here, he boards a deep-sea trawler and heads into the North Atlantic at the height of the hurricane season. Deliciously comical adventures ensue.
